Brother Jeffery D. Whitener

 -1978-

A master's job is never done, it lives on through the ages.

The annual Installation of Officers was held on December 10, 1977 and Stan Young son of the retiring Master was the musical entertainment for the evening. He played several songs on the Organ. There were light refreshments served after the closing of the Lodge.

On January 26th the new Bible that was given to the Lodge by Bro's C. D. Irby Jr. PM and Thomas Howison Jr., was used for the first time. This allowed our other more historical Bible to be put away and only used for special occasions.

On March 6th Bro. Ebert W. Franck Past Master of Clovis Lodge passed away at his home after a long illness. Kind words spoken were, "Bro. Ebert was one of the most proficient Master's. He will surely be remembered for his gentle manner, his love of life and his fellow man." He was laid to rest on March 9, 1978.

On April 13th, Bro. Clark Jeffery Beckham received his 50 year pin in front of a big crowd. Also resolutions were read about raising the annual dues to $30.00, and the cost of all three degrees to $160.00.

In the stated meeting in May, the resolution to raise the annual dues to $30.00 passed, raising the life membership to $630.00 also passed, but raising the cost of the degrees to $160.00 was not approved. Bro. George Possum PM from Las Palmas Lodge 366 gave a great talk on the Masonic Homes Endowment Fund.

After hearing the reading of the upcoming resolutions to be voted on at Grand Lodge the members voted to trust the judgment of the delegation going and voting at Grand Lodge for the entire Lodge.

At the Roll Call Dinner, Bro. George Edward Talbert, Past Master of Clovis Lodge, was given his 50 year pin. Bro. Thomas Howison Jr., was invited to the East to help pin Bro. Talbert. This was a special night for Bro's Talbert and Howison, being set aside to reflect on their long career's as Treasurer and Secretary of Clovis Lodge.

On December 14th, at the annual election of officer's, Bro's Talbert and Howison, who had for so many years held the office's of Treasurer and Secretary respectively, decided that it was a fine time to retire and both gave up their jobs as Lodge officers. Bro. Howison was first elected Secretary in 1935, when Bro. Talbert was Master of the Lodge, serving 43 consecutive years as Secretary. Also Bro. Howison informed the Lodge that unless he had been over paid for the last 15 years, the new Secretary was due a raise to $200.00 per month. The motion passed. Bro. Howison went on to be installed as Organist and held this post for a number of years.

Brothers lost to death in this year were Virgil Paul Cornelius, Ebert W. Franck PM, Harry Roy Waltz, Samuel Emery Coffey, Charles Walter Manly Jr., Robert Walter McCann, William Tennyson Atkins, James Edward Pritchett and Maurice M. Pike.
